They celebrated it for eight days with gladness like Sukkot

they had been wandering in the mountains and caverns like wild animals.
So carrying lulavs …they offered hymns of praise

We appreciated the talent and great entertainment that you have provided over the years. Many of us grew up watching "The Monkees" and really enjoyed their cool songs, and who can think of the 80's, 90's and beyond without thinking about the beautiful voice and talents of Whitney Houston. Honestly, will anyone ever top her "National Anthem" rendition? Thank you and RIP

Congratulations Kathryn on your historical achievement, and for making a superb film. I’ve watched “The Hurt Locker” several times and each time is as gut wrenching as the first. Kathryn captured the essence of one of the many jobs that our men and women of the armed forces are dealing with in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas of conflict. The cast of “The Hurt Locker” is superb and it is fitting that the Academy Award for Best Picture, was bestowed on such an amazing work of art. Team television 101 is inspired by your work. Thank you. MDM

Congratulations Geoffrey, Oscar history has been re-written, and you have given many writers the inspiration that with hard work, talent and persistence, excellence can be achieved. Thank you for achieving excellence with your script for “Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire”. Your script brought to life characters that are hard for many people to process, and you did it with such grace that we couldn’t look away. Team television 101 is inspired. MDM

We would also like to congratulate him on the honors, accolades, and award nominations that he has received for this film. He is a superb actor and deserving of all the praise that he is receiving.

I had the great fortune to meet Jeremy six years ago when I cast him as the lead in “Reel Guerrillas”. He worked with me to develop the character and he even helped to promote the film. I knew from that moment that this guy is special and was destined for greatness. Unfortunately scheduling prevented Jeremy from shooting my film. I was able to re-cast the role with Joel David Moore (another guy destined for greatness, ”Avatar”) as the lead. I hope that I am fortunate enough to being able to work with Jeremy in the future. Any project that he is associated with becomes a better project. CONGRATULATIONS JEREMY!

57th Anniversary Of The First Barcode Patent

Pasted Graphic 1

I was intrigued by the barcode on Google’s homepage this morning. When I clicked on the logo, I learned that on October 7, 1952, inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver were granted the first patent for their invention. It’s funny how pretty much anything can be represented by simple black lines. Though from a philosophical point of view, maybe there wouldn’t be so much division amongst us if we all were a group of black lines. MDM

Happy Birthday

I’ve had the privilege of working with Joel David Moore (“Avatar”) and Zach Levi (NBC’s “Chuck”) on a couple of Television 101 projects. Aside from the fact that they are talented professionals, I’m writing this blog entry because they are really great guys. Joel and I share the same birthday (September 25th) and Zach’s is on September 29th. Occasionally they have a joint birthday party and it’s always a fun night because the people that gravitate toward both of these guys are really cool. Last night I had a chance to celebrate our collective birthdays and to catch up with the guys. It’s always good to see them and hear about the exciting things that they are working on. Anyhow, If you have a chance to get to know them, I recommend it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY guys. MDM

September 11th

Many thoughts go through my mind on this day. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for those who lost friends or relatives, co-workers and colleagues. I think about what it must be like to have been in Manhattan or Washington that day or to see the field in Pennsylvania. Such immense destruction and yet on the opposite end of the spectrum such brotherly love, unity, self sacrifice and hope. Did one of the worst days in American history bring out our best qualities?

Anyhow, I propose in memory of our fallen friends, neighbors and countrymen that today we practice one act of random kindness. MDM

A Hug From A Stranger

As I walked up the street to get lunch today a loud and sort of disheveled woman yelled out to me “Sir!” “Hello Sir!” My first thought was to avoid her, but we were on a collision course. I anticipated that she wanted some money, and when she asked, I reached into my pocket, handed her some change and proceeded to walk on. She started to ramble about Mohammed Ali as I continued to walk away and then she said, “Hey can I have a hug?” I stopped turned around and looked at her for a nano second then turned back around to walk away. I took another step and turned back around to her and asked her “You want a hug?” She gestured, yes. So, I gave her a hug.

Anyhow, I was in a crappy mood this morning but I feel better now, go figure. MDM

Thank You Jessica, Anant, Jeff, and the USC Marshall School of Business

Team television 101 recently was privileged to have our business analyzed and a new business plan assessed for us, by three very bright students from USC's Marshall School of Business. Jessica Anwar, Anant Gupta, and Jeff Herle are intelligent, amazing, and very likable young students. They spent time with us and were able to get a sense of our current business, our goals for the future, and gave us good, constructive criticism and advice. We are currently implementing their suggestions, and television 101 will be a better company because of their advice.

All of us at television 101 support academia and clearly understand that our future relies on the talent coming out of colleges and universities. We would also like to thank John Gutierrez ( Los Angeles Minority Business Enterprise Center) for his support and for referring us to the program at USC, as well as Professor Steven Weinberg (USC Marshall School of Business).

A Perfect Day

Team television 101 was approached by a talented young musician, Jon Santos, and his producer/friend, Courtney Zito, to direct a music video for them. We are always eager to work with talented people, and once we met with Jon and Courtney, we were hooked. After planning the narrative and shot list, we headed out to the location to shoot.

I'm writing this in the blog because what usually looks on paper to be the typical location shoot, (which any filmmaker knows, is basically man/woman against the elements as well as the likelihood that many things could go wrong), turned out to be the definition of
GRACE. We moved around the Mojave desert without disrupting the "deafening silence" of the environment, and paused to shoot and capture it's true beauty and vastness to the tune of Jon's engaging song, "Empty". The weather was perfect, no one was around, and we literally meshed with the environment.

Kudos to AMC

Jeff and I had a general meeting at the AMC Network/Channel yesterday. I'm putting this in the blog because the two executives that we met with made us feel at home. Not only was the meeting constructive, but we had a chance to understand the creative process at AMC. Needless to say, Jeff and I left the meeting committed more than ever to create shows that will fit in at AMC. I think it goes without saying, that the network that brought us "Breaking Bad" and "Madmen", is a network that strives for excellence, and that's exactly where Team Television 101 wants to be. MDM

Television 101 goes "Green"

We had an amazing shoot on Sunday October, 5th. Fifteen talented young people, and their parents showed up at our stage to film a couple of "Green" spots. The shoot went smoothly, and everyone was awesome. Team Television 101 would like to thank everyone involved. We are busy editing the spots, and it will be ready shortly for everyone to see.

Greed

Greed
Pronunciation: \
ˈgrēd\
Function: noun
Etymology: back-formation from greedy
Date: 1609
: a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed

The news coverage of the various collapses of fabled Wall Street institutions (Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch...) is so sad and pathetic, it's almost comical. I guess it would truly be funny if so many people weren't affected, and I'm not referring to the investment bankers. The word "greed" has been tossed around by various pundits, news reporters, and even our presidential candidates. Go figure, greed (one of the seven deadly sins), might be at the root of this crisis,

Ironically, Team Television 101 created a television series, titled "
Greed" that has attracted some attention. We feel it has the potential to be a huge hit. I guess it's all about timing. We want to find the perfect network. Our bets are on a few great networks. I think you know who they are. Anyhow, let the best cable or traditional network WIN!

Yes Alexa,

In an updraft sometimes ice crystals form in the upper atmosphere and when they get heavy enough they fall to earth, when they hit terminal velocity a mixture of sugar and honey molecules gather on the outside of these ice crystals and sometimes but only in rare occasions a cold wind from the north blows, some say these winds are magic and are blown from the sighs of Ricola founder, Emil Richterich. Straight from the Swiss Alps they just wander the earth until the perfect conditions appear or should I say a fantasy of throat soothing goodness falls on the chosen one, bringing him or her good luck for the planting season. Of course this is according to legend but if I were you, I would plant this spring and just sit back and wait for fall because the harvest is going to be a good one.
